On August 2, DHCD announced that Massachusetts will receive $7.21 million in Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Relief (CDBG-DR) funds for use in communities affected by storms that received federal disaster designations in 2011 and 2012.  DHCD is requesting letters of interest by August 20, 2013 from cities and towns for potential CDBG-DR projects and activities.

DHCD has issued its official notice (PHN 2013-16) to housing authority directors that, effective July 1, all applicants for state-aided public housing or MRVP will retain or be granted emergency case status notwithstanding receipt of HomeBASE rental assistance.

Actions by the Senate and House this week mean decisions on the FY2014 HUD budget will be delayed until at least September.  On August 1, the Senate voted against cloture (54-43) on its Fiscal Year 2014 appropriations bill (S.1243) for Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD).

STATE UPDATES $1.4 Billion Housing Bond Bill Passes Legislature On Tuesday, July 30th, the Senate passed CHAPA’s top priority, the housing bond bill (H.3492). The bill authorizes $1.4 billion in capital spending over the next five years and extends the Low Income Housing Tax Credit at $20 million per year through 2020.

On July 26, Governor Patrick announced the award of $31 million in federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to 38 cities and towns to support projects and activities in 61 communities.  These grants will support a wide range of activities, including housing rehabilitation, including loans to homeowners, infrastructure repair or replacement, public facilities, neighborhood improvement, social services, planning and architectural barrier removal.  They are funded from the annua
