The housing bond bill is scheduled for a vote TODAY, Thursday, July 25th. The Senate session is scheduled for 1:00 PM. 

Passage of the Housing Bond bill is a top priority for CHAPA. The bill invests $1.4 billion in affordable housing development over the next five years, recapitalizing DHCD housing programs and extending the Low Income Housing Tax Credit at $20 million per year for 5 years. 

At the same time that this bill funds critical affordable housing programs, the bill also includes language that guts our affordable housing law, potentially making it harder to build affordable housing.

Please call your Senator today and ask them to support the Housing Bond bill, while protecting the definition of affordable housing. 

Ask your Senator to:

1. Vote for S 1835, An Act financing the production and preservation of housing for low and moderate income residents.

2. Support Amendment 5 by Senator Eldridge, striking the sections that guts our affordable  housing  law, Chapter 40B. Current language in the bill changes the definition of low and moderate income housing and sidesteps affirmative fair housing marketing laws.

3. Support Amendment 33, allowing for new construction to be included in homeownership opportunities in weak markets.
