City and metropolitan inequality on the rise, driven by declining incomes - January 15, 2016

Inequality is growing, and Boston has the highest rate of income inequality, according to a new study by the Brookings Institution. The study shows that the income equal to the 20th percentile dropped by 8% between 2007-2014 in Greater Boston while the income equal to the 95th percentile rose by 10%, and rent would require 31% of income for a household in the 20th percentile of all households (not just renters).  In the city of Boston, rent would require 43% of income for a household at the 20th percentile.
