Job Description

The Schochet Companies is currently seeking a Staff Accountant at

our corporate office in Braintree, MA.  

 

A recognized leader in multifamily development and property management, with a special

expertise in affordable housing, the Schochet Companies owns and/or manages nearly 5,500

apartments and 50,000 square feet of commercial space throughout New England. We are

looking for an exceptional candidate to bring their skills and talent to our exciting and growing

company, where you would join a team of the very best professionals working to develop and

acquire critical affordable housing (and other multifamily) assets with an eye toward

revitalizing and enhancing the marketability, livability, and quality of every community we

serve.

Responsibilities include but not limited to maintaining the general ledger for 15-18 properties and completing bank reconciles for various other entities on a team of two. In addition, the position will also prepare for the year-end audits, prepare monthly financials for each property, prepare a budget, coordinate month-end close with site managers and reconcile the balance sheet accounts for each property.

General Duties:

  • Reconciling cash daily to ensure property deposits have been received by the bank
  • Communicating with property managers and helping to resolve vendor and tenant-related accounting questions to Yardi software
  • Ensuring that all invoices related to Replacement Reserve are kept in property specific files and that Replacement Reserve Requests are submitted to housing authorities
  • Ensuring that the timely filing of quarterly financial compliance documents
  • Preparing audit schedules on a monthly basis for year-end auditor packages and working with auditors in resolving audit issues
  • Provide documentation to auditors as requested.  Review audit and tax return documents after they are completed by auditors.
  • Create yearly property budgets with property managers and send them to appropriate housing authorities. 

 

Computer knowledge,  spreadsheet applications and accounting software. Prior experience with Yardi is beneficial but not required. Bachelor's in Accounting, Business or Finance is required. Self directed ,team player, excellent communication and organizational skills required. Prior Property Accounting experience a plus.
