Senior Planner

The Town of Barnstable is seeking qualified candidates for a Senior Planner in the Planning & Development Department.  The Senior Planner will be responsible for overseeing the Town’s Regulatory Planning program, including advising the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Historic Commissions on development reviews.  The Senior Planner also contributes to long-range and village planning initiatives, working collaboratively with the public, community partners and other Town departments on planning, economic development, housing, and climate change resiliency efforts.

The Town of Barnstable, Massachusetts is a dynamic coastal community with a year-round population of 45,000 and a seasonal peak population of 150,000. Barnstable is a historic municipality comprised of seven distinct villages, including Hyannis, the economic, transportation, and government hub of Cape Cod.

We are seeking a creative, team-oriented, and experienced professional capable of independently managing complex projects and collaboration and partnership-building.  Successful candidates will have advanced planning experience, strong public presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in urban or regional planning, public administration, or a related field; and five years of progressively responsible experience in at least one of the following areas: physical planning, comprehensive planning, environmental planning, or community and economic development.  A Master’s degree in one of the above planning fields may be substituted for one (1) years of experience.
