Job Description

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION

Senior Associate, Membership and Governance

Housing Partnership Network (HPN) is an award-winning business collaborative of 100 of the nation’s leading affordable housing and community development nonprofits. Though we are a member driven network at our core, HPN is not a typical trade organization. We’re inventors, doers, and social entrepreneurs.

HPN facilitates peer-to-peer learning and promotes policy and practice that is based on the proven experience of some of the nation’s most successful nonprofits. Through our unique networked approach, organizations and leaders accelerate and scale innovation to more rapidly respond to changing market challenges and opportunities. Together, we have created and operate a family of social enterprises that strengthen the business performance and social impact of our members.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

HPN is seeking a Senior Associate to play a lead role in our membership and governance administration, interacting with our member-led board and committees comprised of innovative and entrepreneurial CEOs who are on the cutting edge of affordable housing development and finance across the country. The Senior Associate will also be an integral part of the team responsible for meeting operations, management of HPN’s international exchange, and a major industry collaborative on financial management, as well as work closely with our Knowledge Management team.

Governance

The Senior Associate will serve as the key point of contact for the boards and committees of HPN and its affiliated companies, managing communications, scheduling, and implementation of meetings, as well as preparing materials, keeping minutes, and follow-up/tracking of deliverables. S/he will conduct research to evaluate board composition, identify gaps, and assist with cultivation of prospective board members, and also execute on strategies to engage and inform board/committee members, such as the development of an online board resource center. S/he will keep up-to-date on board management best practices and appropriately integrate them into operations, while ensuring compliance and maintaining governance records and documents.

Membership Administration

The Senior Associate will play an essential role in membership administration, including reviewing and assessing prospective members and administering our annual membership renewal process. S/he will also serve as an internal expert on member activities and information—curating and disseminating relevant member news, as well as working with our Knowledge Management team to collect and manage member data and assist in the growth and expansion of HPN’s state-of-the-art Knowledge Center, a comprehensive business intelligence tool that captures the impact of HPN and its members.

Meeting Operations

The Senior Associate will also assist in planning and executing HPN’s semi-annual member meetings; the annual Leadership Exchange of the International Housing Partnership (HPN’s collaboration with housing networks in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom) held on a rotating basis in each of the member countries; and the annual Strength Matters Financial Management Conference (in partnership with NeighborWorks America and Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future). S/he will manage various aspects of projects related to the meetings noted above and other smaller gatherings, including working with HPN and member staff to organize program sessions and related events.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS or comparable related experience.
  • 5+ years of professional experience, preferably in the community development and/or affordable housing industry, with demonstrated understanding of current housing and community development issues.
  • Solid understanding of corporate governance, with a high level of integrity and discretion in relation to matters of a sensitive and/or confidential nature.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and maintain clean, actionable data. Strong data analysis skills with experience analyzing, measuring, and articulating program results and outcomes.
  • Excellent computer/technology skills. Experience with customer relations management software and business intelligence (BI) tools is highly desirable.
  • Self-starter with careful attention to detail and strong organizational, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Collaborative professional, who excels at relationship-building and communicating effectively with all levels of staff, Board, and members.
