Job Description

We have an immediate need for a Senior Associate within our Project Finance and Consulting Group. This role will be based in Boston and play an instrumental and supportive role to the management team.

JOB SUMMARY

Provides consulting services to clients in real estate focusing on tax-advantaged investments, primarily, Low Income Housing and Historic Rehabilitation Credit investments. Core client base includes syndicators, institutional investors and other participants in real estate projects, which provides the Senior Associate with the industry’s best-in-class and most comprehensive on the job training/industry experience.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Investment due diligence to help institutional investors make informed decisions on acquiring and managing tax-advantaged investments.
    • A substantial amount of the work will relate to conducting comprehensive assessments of multifamily development transactions specified for placement in fund investments using underwriting packages and closing documentation. Assessments require generation of high-quality due diligence reports that accurately analyze investment risks relative to real estate markets, development teams, underwriting guidance, and tax and regulatory policies for the benefit of investors.
    • The Senior Associate will actively participate in organizational assessments of private, public and non-profit tax credit syndication companies/fund managers. Assessments include, but are not limited to assessing underwriting guidelines, asset management policies and procedures, and the historical performance of tax credit portfolios under management.
  • Other transactional or consulting services, such as conducting research on the affordable housing market trends, working with clients to construct and deploy strategies around satisfying community development objectives, and providing modeling, deal transaction and due diligence support. 
  • Regular client interaction and project management.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  1. Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills
  2. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel. Access, VBA or SQL a plus.
  3. High degree of familiarity with the affordable housing tax credit industry
  4. Sophisticated knowledge of real estate underwriting and partnership tax concepts
  5. Strong communication skills, with proven ability to coherently express complex concepts, both verbally and in writing
  6. Detail oriented and deadline driven
  7. Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and multi-task in an environment of multiple responsibilities

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business administration, finance, economics or related fields.

Experience

A minimum of three years of experience, preferably within affordable housing.
