JOB SUMMARY

This position is accountable for originating residential mortgage loans by selling RIHousing's products and services to meet the needs of its client base and for developing and maintaining a strong client referral base.

JOB FUNCTIONS

This position establishes and maintains client referral relationships with realtors, builders, developers, community groups and other non-profit organizations. Incumbent responds to leads and makes sales calls to develop new business and manage current pipeline.  He/she maintains a professional image and ethical standards consistent with RIHousing’ s Code of Ethics.

Incumbent is responsible for the overall customer interaction and interface with all involved parties from application to closing including, but not limited to:  counseling and prequalifying potential home buyers; taking complete and accurate loan applications electronically via personal computer; identifying programs and conditions; obtaining all required supporting documentation in conjunction with the mortgage processor; monitoring loan status to ensure conformity with terms and communicating said status to all interested parties; and obtaining loan documentation after closing, as directed.

Incumbent maintains and expands knowledge of all RIHousing mortgage products and services including program and underwriting requirements, investor guidelines and internal policies and procedures.  He/she keeps informed of market trends and developments and the evolving mortgage rules and regulations.

This position works closely with the mortgage processor(s) to ensure a smooth mortgage process and with management to resolve problems during said process.  He/she performs related administrative and reporting functions as required.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Markets residential mortgages to consumers, realtors, builders, community groups and other non-profit organizations.
  • Reviews applicant’s financial capacity to determine most prudent mortgage program and ensure adherence to RI  Housing guidelines.
  • Prepares mortgage forms and disclosures in an accurate and timely manner and ensures their expeditious processing by assigned support staff.
  • Expands referral network through sales calls and other forms of prospecting.

  QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years experience as a residential mortgage originator  with solid  knowledge of FNMA/FHLMC, FHA, VA and private investor requirements
  • Strong sales experience with demonstrated potential for prospect calling; good understanding of underwriting guidelines
  • Good verbal and written communications skills
  • Good interpersonal, computer and organizational skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Valid driver's license and appropriate automobile insurance coverage
  • Associates Degree in business administration, real estate, or related field with additional courses in real estate preferred; or equivalent work experience required
  • Bilingual ability, particularly Spanish, Portuguese or Asian dialects, preferred
  • Use of personal vehicle, valid driver’s license and proof of insurance is required
