ABOUT THE ROLE

The Director, Business Intelligence is responsible for creating and executing a strategy to showcase the impact generated by HPN/social enterprises and member organizations, including overseeing the design, collection, storage, reporting, and analysis of impact metrics across members and business lines. The Director, Business Intelligence will play a lead role in ensuring the right insights are provided colleagues at the right time to drive decision-making that ultimately improves efficiency and effectiveness. The Director will work with colleagues throughout HPN and the network of members to foster a data-driven and solutions-focused culture and approach to business.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic direction on the collection, maintaining, and reporting of data to support the measurement of outcomes.
  • Lead and support the analytics function to ensure high quality data-based decision making across the organization. 
  • Develop, implement, and manage internal systems for conducting ongoing outcomes measurement and provision of relevant insights at the appropriate point in decision cycles.
  • Develop and implement metrics for HPN’s annual data collection based on industry standards, organizational needs, and member feedback.
  • Partner with the Vice President of Operations and Information Systems (VPOIS) to develop metrics to measure and monitor HPN’s strategic agenda and SMART Goals. Contribute a strong evaluation and impact planning perspective to all strategy development.
  • Provide data management and strategy advice to business lines, enterprises, and programs, including data sharing agreements.
  • Provide strategic analysis and insights to HPN stakeholders, including Executive Team, Senior Leadership Team, the Board of Trustees, and business leads to assist decision-making and improve effectiveness.
  • Oversee HPN/enterprise business intelligence design, buildout, and reporting in HPN’s Knowledge Center (KC).
  • Oversee and facilitate data projects for HPN’s enterprises and teams where relevant.
  • Revise data collection metrics annually, as needed, and ensure completion of all data collection efforts.
  • Work toward increasing the standardization of impact measurement for the affordable housing industry; partner with other intermediaries and data experts to achieve more consistent output and outcome metrics for the industry and to be adopted by members.
  • Facilitate peer exchange around impact definitions, metrics, and best practices among members.
  • Partner with the Director of Information Systems to inform systems decisions and management that support Knowledge Management initiatives across the network and within HPN.
  • Play a leadership role in HPN’s cross-functional data and systems governance team, which oversees the development and rollout of data/systems best practices, policies, and procedures across the company.
  • Understand, inventory/document, and (where it makes sense) consolidate current tools and practices for measuring impact to ensure cohesive, consistent, high quality data collection and analysis.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a training strategy to ensure that staff know how to use the tools and reports available to access existing information and make informed decisions. 
  • Provide ad hoc analysis and reports for staff and members as requested and time allows.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of a BA/BS in business administration, information systems, math, or related field, Master’s Degree is preferred. 
  • Five years of professional experience required; experience in community development and/or affordable housing preferred.
  • Experience leading comprehensive data analysis projects. Using best practices, demonstrated ability to analyze, measure, and articulate program results and outcomes, in particular an ability to analyze, interpret, and present quantitative information, and make recommendations based on that data.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to devise creative solutions to complex problems and issues.
  • Strong project management skills; skilled at successfully translating strategy and program requirements into concrete deliverables, including the ability to respond quickly to new opportunities and changes in priorities.
  • Collaborative professional, who excels at relationship-building and communicating effectively with all levels of staff and members.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required; experience with presentation or group facilitation desirable.
  • Excellent computer/technology skills. Experience with customer relations management software ( Salesforce), business intelligence (BI) tools (Power BI, Tableau), and code repositories (GitHub) .Understanding of SQL, database structure, data warehouses, and ETL 
  • Working knowledge of data privacy laws and tools
  • Experience analyzing unstructured data is desirable

 

OTHER

  • Preference for candidates to be based in Boston, MA, but remote candidates will be considered.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • New employees need to either (1) provide proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or (2) granted an exemption prior to beginning work at HPN. At this time, HPN considers an employee “fully vaccinated” when they have completed their primary COVID-19 vaccination series and received a COVID-19 booster. Employees will have four weeks from their “due date” (five or six months, depending on vaccine type, from completing their primary COVID-19 vaccination series) to get the COVID-19 booster.
