Community Development Planner

Provides planning and technical assistance on a wide range of community development projects to regional and local officials and stakeholders, with a focus on promoting smart growth development principles to address the region’s need for housing diversity and affordability.  

Participates and leads multi-disciplinary project teams providing support and recommendations to public officials on housing production to meet the needs of Cape residents. Assists with development of the housing component of local and regional plans, evaluates fairness of same. Comments on affordable and other housing issues for comprehensive permit and development of regional impact applications. 

Requires an ability to manage and coordinate projects and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of public and private groups. Requires superior communication, organization, independent judgment and initiative. Bachelor’s degree in community development, urban or regional planning/design or public administration plus plus five years of experience in community development, housing or land use planning; master’s degree preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
