ABOUT THE ROLE

The role of Associate of Affordable Housing and Consumer Empowerment will assume an important role assisting the Vice President of Affordable Housing and Consumer Empowerment in the development and implementation of initiatives that support members’ efforts to advance affordable housing opportunities, support resident health and stability, and foster economic mobility using housing as a platform. Supporting the Affordable Housing and Consumer Empowerment team, the person in this role will have the opportunity to engage in efforts across the housing continuum from creating affordable housing to increasing housing stability and mobility to achieving homeownership.  The role will have a particular focus on asset building and resident services, supporting and engaging with resident service staff, and helping to cultivate and facilitate discussion among this group of stakeholders.  The Associate will support the VP and the Senior Associate of Homeownership and Consumer Empowerment in the implementation of grants, contracts, and projects, playing a key role in grant reporting and analysis. 

We are looking for a naturally empathetic, creative, and entrepreneurial person with a commitment to increasing racial and economic justice. They must be a highly organized and adept at project tracking and management with a strong ability to work collaboratively and efficiently on highly detailed, fast-paced projects under tight deadlines. This position reports to the VP of Affordable Housing and Consumer Empowerment and based in our Boston office, with consideration for remote.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support management of private and federal contracts for services as applicable, including: the completion of grant applications; reviewing grant agreements and developing corresponding sub grant agreements with HPN members; training and oversight of members throughout the grant periods; and completing reporting associated with the grant.
  • Serve as primary liaison between HPN and member resident services staff, engaging with HPN members to understand needs and best practices in order to support peer learning across the network, ideation, and innovations within the sector. 
  • Support ongoing peer exchange as a vehicle to achieve HPN’s strategic goals and encourage, stimulate, and develop new business ideas.  Specific support of the team’s peer exchange includes: organizing and creating peer exchange content, coordinating meeting logistics, facilitating virtual and in-person meetings, managing online communities of practice, and driving member engagement through ongoing interaction.
  • Assist VP in new project/program development and implementation as applicable, including: monitoring of project plans and schedules to ensure project delivery on a timely basis; planning meetings, preparing deliverables, and communicating project status to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist VP and VP of Development to identify and secure new resources to support HPN and member work around resident services, economic mobility, and counseling efforts, including developing concept notes, identifying and applying for new funding, and fostering funder relationships.
  • Maintain an awareness and understanding of major policy initiatives and industry advancements in the areas of economic mobility and asset building, financial capability programs, housing counseling, and resident services, and share key updates with HPN staff and members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High level of attention to detail and ability to prioritize duties under tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience in grant or project management/coordination
  • Experience in meeting planning and discussion facilitation
  • Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Interest in and ability to learn new technology; experience with virtual meeting platforms and communication and collaboration software a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a constantly changing, somewhat unpredictable, fast-paced open office environment. Bonus: this excites you!
  • Knowledge of and experience with asset building or resident services preferred
  • Creative with an eagerness to learn
  • BA/BS and 2 years of related experience or 5+ years of relevant experience required

 

OTHER

  • Preference for Associate candidates to be based in Boston, MA. Remote location may be considered.
  • Some travel required
