Job Description

Harborlight Homes is a leader in providing service-enriched affordable housing throughout the area. As one of the oldest and largest nonprofit affordable housing providers in the area, we strive to make home happen for everyone.  If you are a passionate advocate for social change as a means to increase access to affordable housing, this may be the role for you!

As the Advocacy and Education Manager you will help expand and maintain the organization’s positive reputation as an affordable housing developer and advocate through strong implementation of community events, programs, and frequent meetings with appointed and elected officials. Your role will be essential in executing community-facing and grant-funded initiatives by engaging with community members, political and municipal leaders, civic and faith-based groups, public and private schools, residents, and others to influence advocacy efforts for affordable housing.  On a regular day you will plan and carry out community programs outlining detailed logistics, arranging events, spaces, speakers, recording attendance, maintaining contact information and following through on implementation through conclusion and assessment.  You will recruit individual attendees and manage registrations for engagement events and lead facilitation of housing related meetings with community members building a network of Housing Stewards.  In addition, you will seek opportunities for partnership, present information, communicate policy viewpoints, inform and education stakeholders and the public, and manage data and reporting.

To thrive in this role you have a strong ethical character and a commitment to the mission and cultural objectives of Harborlight Homes to provide affordable, quality, and respectfully operated housing for economically vulnerable and diverse populations.  You are highly self-directed and collaborative with a strong attention to detail and familiarity with data management and collection.  You have a solution-oriented mindset and strong comprehension and communication to understand viewpoints and present information through various modes of communication in social media.  You thrive when organizing, planning, and carrying out activities from conception to conclusion and are naturally driven for successful outcomes.

 Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field of study OR equivalent experience in a relevant education and advocacy or affordable housing related position
  • Knowledge and experience with community organizing, affordable housing, local government, housing policy or related matters highly preferred
  • Bilingual speaking ability highly preferred but not required (Spanish and/or Portuguese)
  • Access to reliable transportation to travel locally in the Beverly area or North Shore

Harborlight Homes is an equal opportunity employer. As an organization we are committed to providing education on the history of housing and the ways it has been used as a vessel to disproportionately affect wealth, employment, and other health outcomes for low-income, communities of color. We believe this education must be centered in the work we do. Hence, we strongly encourage applicants of all backgrounds, experiences, and beliefs to join our cause.
