Job Description

Organizational Mission  

Southwest Boston Community Development Corporation (SWBCDC) works toward thriving, diverse communities in Hyde Park and Roslindale with affordable housing preservation and development, improved access to good transit, preservation of green spaces, and the development and empowerment of local leaders.  

 

Current Programs and Activities 

1) Preservation and development of mixed income housing - Purchase existing rental properties to keep them affordable and prevent displacement; recently opened 27units of new mixed income apartments at the Fairmount commuter rail station;  

2) Transit Equity - working with the Fairmount/Indigo Transit Coalition and Fairmount CDC Collaborative, helped win four new stations & better service. We are still working for more frequent stops, lowering Readville fares, and converting diesel to electric power.  

3) Environmental restoration and preservation, advocacy on climate change mitigation/resiliency:  Our Green Team youth jobs and environmental stewardship program employs local teens and engages adult volunteers to restore Hyde Park’s conservation lands. We work with local neighborhood organizations, environmental groups and city departments to clean our polluted Neponset River, to develop a walking/biking path and community spaces along the River, and to create a climate resiliency plan for Hyde Park.  

 

Administrative Assistant Responsibilities 

  • Assist Executive Director with scheduling 

  • Manage shared electronic files and paper files 

  • Manage Salesforce and Constant Contact data bases 

  • Disseminate quarterly e-newsletter  

  • Assist with annual fundraising appeal letters and calls 

  • Assist with grant preparation 

  • Manage office operations including ordering supplies and maintaining equipment  

  • Assist with program administrative tasks as needed 

  • Assist with event planning 

  • Prepare minutes for Board of Directors meetings 

 

Qualifications 

Required Experience: 

  • At least one year experience with office management and administrative tasks described above 

  • Excellent verbal and written skills 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Salesforce, Constant Contact, Powerpoint 

  • Well organized, able to multi-task 

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member 

  • Ability to work with a diverse staff and board of directors  

 

Helpful Experience: 

  • Bilingual in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole 

  • Familiarity with Hyde Park, Roslindale, and Mattapan 

  • Grant research and writing
