State Updates DHCD Issues Spring 2014 Rental Housing NOFA

A new report from Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) estimates that with an aging population, Metro Boston will need up to 435,000 new housing units, mostly in urban areas, by 2040 to attract and house young workers and “to keep the economy on track”.  It expects multifamily housing to make up 48% to 62% of the demand.  As detailed in the Executive Summary, absent action, if the region’s current population and housing trends continue (“status quo”), the Metro Boston population will grow by less than 7% between now and 2040, the population age 65+ will grow by 82% and th

The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has posted its Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for the Spring 2014 Affordable Housing Competition for Rental Projects.  The deadline for submitting an application is the close of business, Friday, March 21, 2014.  Only projects with January/February pre-approvals will be considered.

The Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) seeks to create a pool of qualified housing search entities (HSEs) to perform specific housing search tasks to assist in finding community-based housing for adults with disabilities and elders served by the Money Follows the Person (MFP) Demonstration grant, the Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Waivers, and MRC state-funded programs.

Due to the weather, DHCD has rescheduled the public hearing regarding the proposed 2014 Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP) for the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC).  The hearing will now be held at 10:30 a.m. on January 21, 2014 in second floor conference room 2D, 100 Cambridge Street, Boston, MA  02114.  Please see the attached memo for additional information regarding this public hearing.
