DHCD Issues Draft Analysis of Impediments (AI) to Fair Housing Choice - September 23, 2013

The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has issued its 2013 Draft Analysis of Impediments (AI) to Fair Housing Choice and will post information on the public hearing and comment process on its website when it become available.  

The Analysis details the fair housing issues faced by members of protected classes in Massachusetts, including high levels of racial and ethnic segregation and their overlap with economic segregation, as well as the limited stock of accessible housing.  It reviews the causes, including restrictive zoning, gaps in accessibility requirements and a bias in some communities against  permitting new development of family units, and outlines steps that the State is considering to to address those issues, including establishing new criteria to award state housing and other discretionary funds.
