We are at a critical moment for efforts to include the Cantwell-Hatch Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (S.548) to strengthen and expand the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) in FY2018 omnibus spending legislation.
Senate Minority Leader Schumer must hear from his Democratic colleagues that including S.548 in the omnibus bill is a top priority. The omnibus FY2018 spending legislation is currently being negotiated and must pass by March 23rd.
Please contact Senators Markey and Warren and ask them to weigh in with Senator Schumer in support of adding the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (S.548) to the FY2018 omnibus bill.
Reach out to any staff you may know or call the Senators’ offices directly:
- Senator Ed Markey: (202) 224-2742
- Senator Elizabeth Warren: (202) 224-4543
When you contact the offices, you can use this message:
Unfortunately, Massachusetts is at risk of losing tens of millions of dollars for producing and preserving affordable housing because of the federal tax cuts that significantly weakens LIHTC. If we do not strengthen and expand the Affordable Housing Credit, the Commonwealth’s housing crisis will worsen, and thousands of people will be left homeless or struggling to hold onto homes they cannot afford.
Please ask the Senator to contact Senator Schumer and ask him to include S.548 in the FY18 omnibus spending bill to strengthen and expand the Affordable Housing Credit.
