Please join us for the next meeting of our Public Housing & Rental Assistance Committee!

We will be hosting a discussion on Small Area Fair Market Rents (SAFMRs), led by David Gleich, Chief Officer of Leased Housing Programs at the Boston Housing Authority. Although no housing authority in Massachusetts currently uses Small Area FMRs, Boston Housing Authority will begin implementing them soon.

Small Area FMRs allow Housing Choice Voucher payment standards to be determined by ZIP code instead of using a metropolitan area-wide FMR. The metropolitan areas identified to use Small Area FMRs are those areas with both significant voucher concentration challenges and market conditions where establishing FMRs by ZIP code has the potential to significantly increase opportunities for voucher families. The use of Small Area FMRs is expected to give Housing Choice Voucher tenants access to areas of high opportunity and lower poverty areas by providing a subsidy that is adequate to cover rents in those areas, thereby reducing the number of voucher families that reside in areas of high poverty concentration. For more information on Small Area FMRs, click here.

We will also provide legislative and budget updates.
