LISC's Massachusetts Green Retrofit Initiative for Affordable Housing

The Local Initiatives Support Corporation’s (LISC) Massachusetts Green Retrofit Initiative (MAGRI) provides energy management services and technical assistance to multifamily affordable housing owners. The goal is to provide a replicable one-stop approach to improve affordable housing energy efficiency. From 2012-2015, average retrofit savings were 29% for electric and 23% for gas. Overall, MAGRI has benchmarked 17,000 units, retrofitted 5,000+ units, and leveraged $17 million. MAGRI is collaborating with state agencies to make it easier for our partners to benefit from the clean energy economy. Senior Program Manager at LISC, Mike Davis, will discuss lessons learned from LISC's work, missed opportunities, and upcoming challenges that require more collaboration among affordable housing owners.
About the Presenter:
Mike Davis joined the LISC Boston office in 2012 and manages the MA Green Retrofit Initiative. LISC just finished working with twenty owners statewide to help them complete Green Asset Management Plans outlining energy efficiency and healthy housing goals for their entire portfolio. Mike also does lending/asset management for LISC on community development projects. Previously, he worked for five years at New York City's Department of Housing Preservation & Development as a Director of Operations for the Division of Architecture+Engineering and as a Senior Planner for the Bronx Planning Unit. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and a LEED Accredited Professional with a specialty in Building Design and Construction. Mike serves as a Board Member for the USGBC MA chapter with the goal of bridging the gap between sustainability professionals with a wealth of technical expertise and the community development field.
