Job Description

Summary

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program helps low- and moderate-income families file their taxes and claim tax credits. These tax credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit, are considered the most effective ways to help families move out of poverty. You can be a part of this important anti-poverty work! As one of the largest VITA sites in the Boston area, The Neighborhood Developers provides free tax preparation to hundreds of clients each tax season, garnering millions of dollars in refunds for our clients.

This season, we are offering our free tax services fully virtually – our virtual process is approved by the IRS and is an easy way for taxpayers to get their refund done from the comfort of their homes as we still battle the pandemic and its effects. We will also offer a limited, by appointment-only Scan and Go option for taxpayers who are unable to access the virtual option at our Chelsea office.

The site coordinator plays a vital role for TND’s VITA program. They will work with the VITA program manager to facilitate operations and coordinate client services during the busy tax season. We are looking for someone who is committed to providing high quality services to the community, learns quickly, can work in a fast-paced environment, can work independently, and is comfortable with various software applications and databases.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and supporting volunteers
  • Answering tax questions
  • Reviewing tax returns
  • Hosting IRS/VITA auditors
  • Scheduling client appointments
  • Ensuring the highest level of customer service is provided
  • Troubleshooting site and technical issues
  • Other related tasks as needed

Training will begin promptly upon hire. We are looking to fill this role by December 1st, 2021.

 

Qualifications

  • Fluency in both English and Spanish is required
  • Availability on evenings and/or Saturdays
  • Basic tax knowledge preferred but not essential (additional training will be provided)
  • Must be able to complete all Site Coordinator training and pass the advanced level IRS tax prep certification exam by Jan 10, 2022.
  • Strong program implementation skills: demonstrated ability to manage time, work effectively in a team, prioritize appropriately among multiple competing demands, and solve problems.
  • Detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to work independently
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office suite and with Salesforce or other databases.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Ability to interact positively and effectively with a variety of people from different backgrounds including race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and socioeconomic status.
  • Experience working with low-income clients from a variety of racial/ethnic groups and countries.
  • Knowledge of community resources in Chelsea and surrounding communities.
  • Must be able to come to the Chelsea office in person as needed - approx. 2 times / week
  • Strong work ethic, a good sense of humor, and a commitment to social justice

 

Work Schedule: flexible and to be determined with employee, but meeting 40 hours per week

Time Period: early January 2022 through mid-April 2022 (this is a temporary position)

Compensation: $20/hr
