Job Description

The Charlestown Resident Alliance (CRA) seeks a part-time programming and development coordinator to assist the CRA Board of Directors as the 1,100 unit Bunker Hill public housing project undergoes a complete redevelopment. Working with and under the direction of CRA’s Community Organizer, the person will:

  • Support community outreach initiatives, increasing resident engagement in the redevelopment process.
  • Assist in developing CRA-led resident programming, including community events.
  • Work to empower the tenants to increase their social engagement and build a greater sense of community.

The position will initially be part-time (20 hours per week) and flexible, though as the redevelopment moves forward there is potential for rapid growth in both workload and responsibilities.

About the CRA

A Massachusetts non-profit corporation, CRA is the Boston Housing Authority (BHA) approved tenant organization for the Bunker Hill public housing project in Charlestown, MA. Bunker Hill’s comprehensive redevelopment into 2,699 units of mixed-income housing, with current residents having a right to return into new and better apartments, has secured many of its public approvals and is close to achieving an initial closing.  CRA is an active participant in all these negotiations, at the table with the private developer and the BHA.

Programming and Development Coordinator responsibilities

  • Work broadly and closely with the CRA’s Board and the Community Organizer on all relevant aspects of CRA’s work.
  • Work with CRA board and Community Organizer to develop a resident programming strategy, including community and outreach events.
  • Organize and implement informational workshops.
  • Learn and stay up-to-date on housing policies and pertinent project related news.
  • Create multi-lingual forms, flyers, and informational documents as needed
  • Maintain appropriate documentation to demonstrate all outreach efforts
  • Participate in timely and accurate filing of progress reports as required
  • Attend meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Participate in activities as directed by the CRA Board or designated executive.

Requirements

  • High School graduate (or GED); experience in program development is a plus.
  • Experience in grant-writing a plus.
  • Relevant experience working with or for low-income tenants.
  • Commitment to social change and empowering low-income residential communities.
  • Availability on nights and weekends.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Zoom.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when required, and to act professionally and positively at all times, especially with residents and community members.
  • Fluency in English – Spanish alongside highly desirable. 
    • Additional language facility (Chinese, Somali, Vietnamese) is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Not a current Bunker Hill public housing resident, nor relationship by blood or marriage to any current tenant.
