Job Description

Lawyers Clearinghouse has an exciting opportunity for a Legal Assistance Coordinator who is organized, enthusiastic, and outgoing. The Coordinator will provide assistance to the Legal Clinic for the Homeless Program as well as the Nonprofit Assistance Program. This is a full-time position with generous benefits.

The mission of the Lawyers Clearinghouse is to improve the lives of people facing social and economic hardship by engaging the legal community in pro bono service to nonprofit organizations and their homeless and low-income clients. We are a small, vibrant pro bono legal services organization located in downtown Boston. 

The Legal Assistance Coordinator will work closely with program directors and staff to provide administrative support, database management, event planning help, and other assistance for our programs. The Legal Clinic for the Homeless Program facilitates the delivery of pro bono legal services to homeless and very low-income people at Boston-area shelter locations; the Nonprofit Assistance Program helps nonprofit organizations in need of legal assistance and education, and the Access to Justice Fellows Program engages senior and retired attorneys in one year pro bono Fellowships.    

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1-5 years of work experience.
  • Familiarity with legal profession and pro bono culture.
  • Interest or experience in assisting nonprofit organizations.
  • Commitment to legal services for low-income people.
  • Strong computer literacy including word processing skills and use of Excel and other database software.
  • Ability to maintain professional demeanor and interact with a wide variety of people.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and creatively, and as a member of a team.
  • Flexibility and sense of humor.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Experience working in a legal services office or other legal setting preferred.
