Job Description

Job Description:

Housing Partnership Network (HPN) is an award-winning business collaborative of 100 of the nation’s leading affordable housing and community development nonprofits. Though we are a member driven network at our core, HPN is not a typical trade organization. We’re inventors, doers, and social entrepreneurs.

HPN facilitates peer-to-peer learning and promotes policy and practice that is based on the proven experience of some of the nation’s most successful nonprofits. Through our unique networked approach, organizations and leaders accelerate and scale innovation to more rapidly respond to changing market challenges and opportunities. Together, we have created and operate a family of social enterprises that strengthen the business performance and social impact of our members.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

HPN is seeking an intern during Summer 2019 to assist in our Knowledge Management department with the build out and refinement of our Business Intelligence (BI) tool, HPN’s “Knowledge Center.” We are looking for an intern to assist with increasing our data and analytical capabilities. Intern duties include:

Data collection, validation, and cleansing – HPN members provide annual updates to key business and property information. The intern will assist with processing, validating, and cleansing the data, including reaching out to contacts at our member organizations with questions and requests for missing information. We also have some historical data that will also need to be validated and cleansed to ensure the utility and success of our BI tool.

Dashboard/report strategy and design – The intern will also assist with refining and adding to the front-end of our BI tool—the dashboards and reports that are used by HPN staff and Board. The intern will assist with the creation and refinement of a series of dashboards and reports in the BI tool (Microsoft’s Power BI platform), including determining appropriate drill-downs and filters and what presentation types and datasets are most valuable given our business requirements. Examples of BI reports currently available in the Knowledge Center include: 1) geospatial mapping of member properties across the country, including appropriate drill-downs and filters, 2) historical analysis of our members’ production over the past 7 years (housing units produced, volume of lending), and 3) identification of how members are interacting with HPN through our businesses, our peer exchange work, and governance.

Data analysis – The intern will also spend time analyzing the data and drawing insights and conclusions, for example, analyzing our members’ growth over last past 7 years, and overlaying our member properties with geospatial layers that allow us to make statements about our member properties and residents (e.g., area median income, access to transit, etc.).

Data governance – HPN has a cross-functional data governance team that is charged with development and rollout of data best practices, policies, and procedures across the company. The KM intern will serve as a member of the data governance team and play a key role in driving this work forward.

This role reports to the Director of Knowledge Management.
