Job Description

Summary:

CONNECT, the direct service and advocacy arm of The Neighborhood Developers, seeks a consultant to help connect with and inventory potential employers for residents of Chelsea, Revere and Everett. This position will be supervised by CONNECT but will work closely with other members of the Good Jobs Coalition, especially La Colaborativa.

This position will be largely remote and offers flexible hours. We are open to someone who has a fulltime or part-time position elsewhere but wants to work with us as well, so long as they are able to make calls to potential employers during times when those employers are available.

This is an exciting time to join a growing team at CONNECT dedicated to both rapid reemployment and building long-term sustainable jobs while working in coalition with other partners.

Temporary Position through December 2022 with the possibility of extension

Overview:

The Neighborhood Developers (TND) is a community development corporation based in Chelsea and

serving Chelsea, Revere and Everett. We are committed to comprehensive, resident-led community development of neighborhoods in our communities. Our mission is to create strong neighborhoods enabling community members to secure a stable home, achieve economic mobility, and determine their own future.

CONNECT provides direct services for residents of Chelsea, Revere and Everett and also works with partner organizations to ensure those residents receive holistic services. We have just created a new Workforce Development Unit and are working closely with local partners to help get our community members back to work.

Chelsea and the surrounding communities were hard hit by the pandemic –with a great deal of job loss and financial instability for our low income, largely immigrant communities– so this is a particularly important time for work force development in the area and the Jobs Developer could make a critical difference in our constituent families’ lives. The CONNECT hotline has helped to bring over $11M to our communities in rental assistance since the start of the pandemic.

Essential Duties:

• Conduct research on employers in the Chelsea area and gather information about size of

employer, types of positions, credentials sought for those positions and hiring contacts.

• Conduct confidential inquiries into whether employers are willing to take those without, college

degrees, English fluency and work authorization and do background investigation of work

conditions.

• Create database of employers drawing from the above research.

• Set up meetings for representatives from CONNECT/TND and La Colborativa to meet with hiring

contacts at employers with promising opportunities for our community members.

Required Skills:

• Knowledge of employer outreach and workforce development for low income, multi-lingual and communities of color.

• Strong sense of diplomacy and discretion.

• Solid organizational skills.

• Proficiency in a range of computer skills including Microsoft Office, Excel and databases

• Excellent communication skills – both written and oral.

Desired Skills:

• Three years of experience in workforce development, career coaching, recruiting or customer

service fields with excellent knowledge of career coaching tools and techniques

• Familiarity with Chelsea, MA and surrounding communities
