About the Role

The HR Manager is an experienced Human Resources professional who will build and support Compass’ talent functions, including workforce planning, talent acquisition, onboarding, professional development, performance management, compensation and benefits, training, HR operations (process/policy/systems) and employee engagement to support our growth. We are currently a 30-person organization with plans to grow our team by 25% over the next year. The HR Manager will be a brand ambassador and champion of Compass’ Core Values, including believing in people and working as a team to foster a culture of inclusion for our staff, clients and partners. The ideal candidate must be a hands-on, innovative leader, mentor and thought-leader for the organization on HR-related topics. The HR Manager will also translate business objectives into an innovative talent strategy and implement best-in-class HR practices to support the organization’s culture and growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all elements of a people and culture infrastructure, including employee benefits, talent acquisition, talent management, performance management, and professional development.
  • Partner with key leadership to understand overall business strategies, determine talent acquisition needs, and establish recruitment plans.
  • Support the implementation of Compass’ diversity, equity and inclusion plan, including fostering a culture that advances equity and inclusion across a diverse team.
  • Manage, mentor and retain talent through commitment to training and professional development of staff.
  • Champion and nurture a vibrant and collaborative organizational culture and develop internal communications methods, tools and schedules to ensure frequent and transparent delivery of key messaging to employees. This will include implementing and overseeing the organization’s new intranet system.
  • Collaborate with Executive Director and Director of Finance to develop compensation and benefits programs to provide motivation, incentives and rewards for effective performance. Continually assess the competitiveness of compensation plans and practices against the relevant comparable organizations, industries and markets.
  • Coordinate the annual all-staff performance evaluation process and update performance management system as needed.
  • Develop and oversee employee engagement programs, including social and team-building activities.
  • Interact with Professional Employer Organization (PEO) to administer HR-related processes, including: staff profile updates, benefits-related functions, compliance, and other relevant matters.
  • Plan monthly all-staff professional development days in collaboration with Director of Financial Coaching. Develop new talent development programs to foster professional growth for all staff.
  • Establish, build and maintain credibility and strong relationships with employees and management throughout the organization; be an effective listener and problem solver of people issues.
  • Maintain and update human resources policies to meet the organizational needs, comply with state and federal laws,and support the organization's mission and vision.
  • Evaluate the HR structure and plan for continual improvement and effectiveness of the function.

 

Required Experience, Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in Human Resources, Business, Management or related field.
  • 7-10 years of broad HR generalist experience, including management coaching and strategic advising, organizational design, talent assessment, selection, acquisition and retention, on-boarding, talent/performance management and recognition, and benefits and compensation.
  • Cultural humility. Openness to and respect for others’ cultures, identities, and lived experiences.
  • Trustworthy, strong presence and exceptional interpersonal skills – positive, confident attitude and able to communicate clearly, delivering messages with desired results; listen effectively; build rapport quickly and relate well/interact easily at all levels of organization.
  • Demonstrated achievement in building organizational culture and strong teams.
  • Excellent organizational and execution skills. Detail-oriented with the ability to complete work accurately and efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to explain complex information in plain language.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to creatively problem solve, prioritize, create actionable plans, manage and deliver tangible outcomes in a growing organization.
  • PProficiencywith MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

 

Additional Information

This position is based in Boston. No remote applicants. Occasional travel to other Compass offices (Lynn, MA) and other communities may be required as our programs grow and broaden geographically.
