Job Description

JM Goldson community preservation + planning, a small private planning firm located in Boston, is accepting applications for a full-time community planner. JM Goldson is led by sole proprietor Jennifer Goldson who formed JM Goldson in 2006 to help communities and organizations create successful community preservation programs and projects. Her 20+ year professional background blends historic preservation, affordable housing, comprehensive planning, open space conservation, master planning, community engagement, and implementation of the Massachusetts Community Preservation Act.

The role of the community planner requires skillful writing and research, excellent collaboration skills, and familiarity with marketing and social media tools. This entry-level position involves community engagement and fieldwork along with writing, research, and editing.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and research skills and interest in community engagement, affordable housing, fair housing, historic preservation, community master planning, as well as strong interpersonal, writing, research, graphic design, and communication skills.

A Master’s Degree in community or urban planning, historic preservation, or a related field is required. Other critical qualifications include the ability to be self-directed, resourceful, results-oriented, and demonstrated ability to work professionally. The ability to attend evening meetings is required.

This position offers flexibility of hours and the ability to work from home. We are a small firm with an office in Boston, easily accessible by public transportation. Compensation commensurate with experience.
