Job Description

The Facilities Technician will join one of the largest providers of services for families experiencing homelessness in the Metro Boston Area. Founded in 1988, Hildebrand is a rapidly growing independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves 300 homeless families each year through shelter, permanent housing and stabilization support. The organization has 60+ employees, and a $6 million budget (in FY’17). Hildebrand operates over 126 units of emergency shelter via scattered sites and congregate living programs in several communities throughout the region; and owns three permanent housing buildings containing 11 units of housing. Our vision is that every family has a home, and in this pursuit, the organization seeks an experienced facilities maintenance professional who will be part of the facilities team.

SUMMARY
The Facilities Technician is responsible for the care and upkeep of the agency’s properties (both leased and wholly owned).  The position requires the employee to perform the actual tasks as outlined in this job description, and other related program tasks as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Property Maintenance Tasks:
 

  • Painting, repairing holes in walls, installing dry wall to include seaming, installing door locks, repair broken window panes to include glazing in new pane, repair torn screens, install window shades, attach gate latches, installing light bulbs, unclogging drains, replacing a toilet, sink or faucet, unclog toilets, repair leaking faucets, caulking, minor tile replacement and re-grouting, removal of debris, yard work, grass cutting, general grounds keeping, snow removal using both hand equipment and snow blower.
  • Performing any other task that is necessary to maintain the property in a safe, workable and “cared for” condition.

Janitorial Maintenance Tasks
 

  • Heavy household cleaning such as floor and wall washing, window washing, and cleaning out the cellar. General maintenance duties to include empty the daily trash, refilling toilet tissue, paper towel dispensers.
  • Performing any other task that is required to keep the property clean and orderly.

Program Tasks:
 

  • Moving furnishings from one room/unit to another to prepare for an incoming family.
  • Picking up donations.
  • Assisting with other facility maintenance and repair tasks as assigned.
  • Performing any other task necessary to support the program goals.

Additional Duties: 
 

  • Review supply needs and submit requests for supplies to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate and timely inventories of all consumable materials.
  • Maintain an inventory of all work tools, materials and donations kept on the premises as directed.
  • Present updated quarterly inventories and other written reports as directed.
  • Complete written Work Orders with all details of work completed on all assignments.
  • Responsible for on call and emergencies after hours and weekends as necessary.

REQUIREMENTS :
 

  • Two or more years experience in property maintenance, janitorial and/or building trades.
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and electrical repair with a skill level proficient to perform basic home repairs not requiring a licensed tradesman.
  • Ability to ambulate unassisted and lift up to 80 lbs.
  • Ability to work rotating on-call schedule, including weekend coverage, which may require additional hours as needed to assist in the effective management of the program.
  • Must have reliable personal vehicle, Massachusetts driver’s license, and ability to drive up to a 27’ box truck.
  • Must read and write English sufficient to generate and maintain reports

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
