Job Description

The Facilities Technician will join one of the largest providers of services for families experiencing homelessness in the Metro Boston Area. Founded in 1988, Hildebrand is a rapidly growing independent 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that serves 300 homeless families each year through shelter, permanent housing and stabilization support. The organization has more than 70 employees, and a $6.6 million budget. Hildebrand operates over 126 units of emergency shelter via scattered sites and congregate living programs in several communities throughout the region; and owns three permanent housing buildings containing 11 units of housing. Our vision is that every family has a home, and in this pursuit, the organization seeks an experienced facilities maintenance professional who will be part of the facilities team.

Summary of Duties:
The Facilities Technician is responsible for the care and upkeep of the agency’s properties (both leased and wholly owned). The position requires the employee to perform the actual tasks as outlined in this job description, and other related program tasks as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Property Maintenance Tasks:
•Painting, repairing holes in walls, installing dry wall, door repairs: casings, moldings, locks, and latches.
•Repair broken window panes to include glazing in new pane, fix window balances, repair torn screens, install window shades, air conditioners, attach gate latches, installing light bulbs, unclogging drains, replacing toilets, sinks and or faucets, unclog toilets, repair leaking faucets, caulking, minor tile replacement and re-grouting.
•Removal of debris, yard work, grass cutting, general grounds keeping, snow removal using both hand equipment and snow blower.
•Conducting regular property inspections and preventative maintenance.
•Performing any other task that is necessary to maintain the property in a safe, workable and “cared for” condition.

Program Tasks:
•Moving furnishings from one room/unit to another to prepare for an incoming family.
•Picking up and delivering donations.
•Performing any other task necessary to support the program goals.
•Heavy household cleaning such as floor and wall washing, window washing, and cleaning out cellars. General maintenance duties to include empty the trash daily, refilling toilet tissue, paper towel dispensers.
•Performing any other task that is required to keep properties presentable, clean and orderly and move-in ready.

Additional Duties:
•Review supply needs and submit requests for supplies to the Field Supervisor and or Property Manager.
•Maintain accurate and timely inventories of all consumable materials.
•Maintain an inventory of all work tools, materials and donations kept on the premises as directed.
•Present updated quarterly inventories and other written reports as directed.
•Complete Work Orders when assigned, and report daily to the Administrative Coordinator that WOs have been completed or need further follow up.
•Responsible for on call and emergencies after hours, holidays and weekends as necessary.

REQUIREMENTS:
•Two or more years’ experience in property maintenance, janitorial and/or building trades.
•Ability to ambulate unassisted and lift up to 80 lbs.
•Ability to work rotating on-call schedule, including weekend coverage, which may require additional hours as needed to assist in the effective management of the program.
•Valid Massachusetts driver’s license
•Must have reliable personal vehicle for travelling to and from job sites, transporting cleaning supplies, maintenance equipment, and client’s belongings as well as some furnishings.
•Ability to drive a Transit-250 Cargo Van XL.
•Must read and write English sufficient to generate and maintain reports.
