About the Role

The Education Coordinator is a creative intuitive educator who is willing to meet youth and young adults where they are socially, emotionally and academically. They possess innovative intuition when it comes to working with alternative learners. They have the opportunity to use their unique skills to lead the award winning YouthBuild North Shore’s Education Component and support staff on best practices for supporting the learning needs of participants. In addition to leading the program curriculum the Education Coordinator supervises the Assistant Education coordinator, uses their passion for teaching directly in the classroom, develops and prepares lesson plans, tracks student progress and helps them identify areas of strength and challenge. The Education Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director and plays a key role in team meetings, programwide curriculum design and fostering a positive environment to support each youth leadership journey to a meaningful career. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support Services

● Lead program curriculum design and implementation towards students success

● Teach basic education subject skills to students with varying academic levels (math, reading social studies etc.)

● Innovatively integrate social justice and community engagement issues, and culture. (to include Math, Reading, Language Arts, Social Studies and Science)

● Utilizing project-based learning approach

● Assessing individual student progress and adapting curriculum and lesson plans according to the needs of the students

● Assessing when students are ready to take particular HiSET exam and coordinating with test providers around testing dates and scores

● Responsible for scheduling educational field trips (i.e college tours, service trips, etc.)

● Establishing and maintaining education and internship partners (i.e Interns, fellows etc.)

● Provide direct supervision to education instructors, interns and volunteers

Administration - Data and Record Keeping, and Training

● Keeping records in accordance with funding and staff needs

● Assisting with the recruitment and intake assessment of prospective students

● Attending all staff meetings and participating in programmatic activities

● Responsible for all HiSET testing and scheduling members for their exams

● Responsible for overseeing the Essential Education administration

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

● Must be passionate about working with Opportunity Youth and Young Adults ages 16 and older and work from a “Youth First Lens”

● High School Diploma required, Bachelor's Degree preferred

● Minimum of one year teaching, tutoring, counseling, recreational therapy or crisis intervention experience

● Previous group facilitation, conflict resolution and classroom management experience

● Must have a driver license in good standing and ability to drive a 15 passenger vehicle

lives, develop leadership and professional skills, and make a difference in their communities

● Ability to navigate systems and advocate for educational needs for opportunity youth

● Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with others around program issues and team teach

● Must exhibit willingness to teach young people utilizing innovative education practices
