Job Description

 

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION 

Under the supervision and direction of the EVP, Capital Markets, the Capital Markets Associate is responsible for special projects within the Capital Markets group.  The Associate will manage special projects from initial concept to completion the work for which will include research, project management, investor relations, preparation of investor materials and specific work to develop and advance member initiatives such has health and housing and impact investing funds. Special projects will include those needed to support business-lines within the Capital Markets group (HP Fund, Fundraising), Membership as well as those needed to carry out Contract and Services Agreements with social enterprises such as HPN Select, the Housing Partnership Equity Trust and Develop Detroit. The Capital Markets   Associate will work with the Senior Marketing Associate and Associate of Philanthropy to create and produce materials that will be utilized in the raising of capital.  The Capital Markets Associate will provide primary support to the EVP of Capital Markets however will maintain a direct line of communication and support to the Vice President of Lending and Investing, the VP of Philanthropy, and VP of Capital Markets specifically to support their efforts to expand their pipeline of prospects for capital and grants. 

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Manage research on potential grant makers and impact investors and help to prioritize and evaluate prospects for corporate, foundation, and government capital, in co-ordination with the Associate of Philanthropy, VP of Philanthropy and VP of Capital Markets,  
  • Responsible for: 
  • Capital Raise: manage investor documents and Salesforce database for equity and debt raise for HPN social enterprises including Develop Detroit, HP Select and new initiatives under the Innovations group such as health and impact investing funds 
  • Investor relations for HPN (in collaboration with Finance and HP Lending) 
  • Research and development for new platforms created through the Innovations group and member-driven collaborations Assist our CDFI Lending group with business development and investor reporting  Project Management: work with members of the Capital Markets team to provide project management for capital campaigns, investor outreach and member innovations Knowledge Center: Work with Knowledge Center team to provide input and ensure the data available to the Capital Markets team provides evidence to attract investor and sector attention to the strength of our model.  
  • The Capital Markets Associate will work closely with the Innovations staff to create and develop new innovation ideas that have been seeded and vetted by Members and are in the next stage of innovation- growth or pre-growth stages. The Associate will work directly with the Senior Associate, Innovations to assist in project management and working with HPN staff and members.  
  • Support the development of the Sector Capital Vehicle (under development in 2019) as needed. 
  • Create and maintain investor collateral to support VP, Lending and Investment in raising capital for CDFI lending activities.  
  • Work closely with the Capital Markets team and Communications to ensure HPN is best leveraging its time, talent and proposal concepts to funders and investors for the various capital needs of the company and its members. 
  • Maintain investor proposal and reporting calendar for investor relations and ensure that all proposals and reports are submitted on time. Assist in the preparation of reports to investors and coordinate as needed with Associate, Philanthropy for common funders. 
  • Take initiative in developing new systems for investment tracking and prospects for new capital investments. 
  • Manage relevant capital market Member meeting sessions and work with team to plan, prepare for and execute meeting.  
  • Manage the database system for tracking funders, prospects, investors and other appropriate constituencies effectively and efficiently. 
  • In collaboration with the Associate of Philanthropy, oversee creation of reporting, prospect profiles and other information necessary for donor and investor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. 
  • Arrange meetings and travel arrangements as necessary to achieve the goals of the department. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • 1-3 years’ experience in development and or finance operations 
  • Knowledge of basic capital raising techniques and strategies 
  • Previous experience with managing data in a capital or fundraising application; familiarity with    Salesforce a plus 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, experience with grant writing 
  • Excellent computer skills with all Microsoft Office programs 
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills 
  • Experience with budget development and monitoring 
  • Excellent attention to accuracy and detail, project management skills 
  • Strong analytical, logical and problem solving skills 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and exercise independent action 
  • Ability to work independently with staff at all levels of the organization 
  • Experience working in a team environment with multiple projects ongoing at once 

 

OTHER 

  • Position is located in Boston, MA 
  • Minimal travel required
