Your Responsibilities

Maloney Properties accounting department is looking for a highly motivated and analytical individual with real estate accounting experience for the assistant controller position.  The successful individual will also have a strong desire to be part of a true, diverse team and to work in an environment that fosters learning through interaction with other property management professionals in a stable and growing company.  Possibility to work fully remote after the first 3 months.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

 

  • Lead, instruct and supervise three to five Property Accountants,
  • Assist Property Accountants and Regional Managers with weekly cash management.
  • Prepare or review monthly, quarterly, and annual property reports to ensure their timely submissions. 
  • Monitor properties monthly financial performance and manage residual receipt requirements with Regional Manager in accordance with the regulatory agreements. 
  • Prepare breakeven calculations, cash flow analysis and other analytical reports as necessary. 
  • Work with Controller and accounting firms to schedule audit package submissions and field work dates.
  • Review properties’ year end work papers as well as interact with auditors, property managers and regional managers to address open items.
  • Work with accounting firms to achieve the timely completion of audits as stipulated in the governing documents.
  • Review governing documents and prepare year end distribution calculations accordingly for controller’s review as well as overseeing the actual disbursements.
  • Work with the Construction Coordinator to track project progress, completion status and prepare payment applications.
  • Work with Project Coordinator and Property Accountant to schedule vendor payments if applicable.
  • Work with Property Accountant to issue the Contracting Service Department monthly financial statements including projects Status report and submit to CFO.
  • Other duties as assigned by a supervisor.

 

Your Qualifications

 

  • Working knowledge of at least five years’ experience with accounting for subsidized housing. Public Accounting experience is preferrable.
  • Experience supervising accounting staff.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of Yardi is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of HUD regulations as it applies to financial reporting. 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills are necessary for interaction with clients, banks and State, Federal and City Regulatory agencies.
