Internship Summary:

The Housing & Community Investment (HCI) internship will focus primarily on the assisting with the housing and economic development research for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston’s annual Community Lending Plan. In addition, the Intern will also assist with other research or review related to the Bank’s Housing and Community Investment programs, especially the Affordable Housing Program (AHP), and the department’s systems and web site. The position will assist with other regular activities and tasks as needed.

The candidate will work directly with the HCI staff and will be exposed to the department’s key programs, including the AHP application preparation and training for the potential members and sponsor/developers.

Based on candidate interest, this paid internship will either begin during the Spring 2018 academic year or it will be a part of the 2018 summer internship cohort, running from late May to August. As part of the 2018 summer internship cohort, our interns will work together on a group project that culminates in a Bankwide presentation and will be invited to participate in a variety of events and activities intended to ensure a positive experience.

Specific Responsibilities  

  • Assist with the housing and economic development research for the Bank’s annual Community Lending Plan (CLP)
  • Review RealtyTrac-provided data and research/track HCI program-related foreclosures
  • Information technology testing of AHP external application and internal screens and make recommendations
  •  Assist web user registration cleanup and implementation of new verification process
  •  Other Equity Builder Program (EBP) and AHP research for annual update of AHP Implementation Plan
  • Other tasks or assignments, including regular activities, as needed or requested by the Director or Deputy Director
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications   

Education & Experience

  • Current students working towards a degree in Business, Planning, or Government are the target audience for this internship. Those with a completed degree will also be considered
  • Prior work experience in an environment other than retail is required. Prior experience in a professional environment is preferred 

    Knowledge/Skills

    • Familiarity with MS Office programs, specifically Word and Excel
    • Possession of writing, research, and analytical skills preferred
    • Financial analysis and/or real estate finance skills a plus
    • Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team
