ACTION ALERT: Ask Your State Legislators to Override a Veto to Foreclosure Prevention & Housing Counseling!

On July 26, Governor Baker signed a $41.2 billion FY2019 state budget. The governor returned the budget to the Legislature with $48.9 million in spending vetoes.
 
The Governor maintained the increased spending levels included in the Legislature's final budget for almost all of CHAPA's affordable housing, homelessness prevention, and community development budget priorities.
 
CHAPA thanks Legislature and the Governor for increasing investment in critical housing resources including the Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program, the Alternative Housing Voucher Program, Public Housing, Residential Assistance for Families in Transition (RAFT), and the Tenancy Preservation Program!
 
However, we are asking the Legislature to override the Governor’s veto of Foreclosure Prevention & Housing Counseling (7006-0011). The veto reduces funding for this program by $500,000. The veto also eliminates language that authorizes the Division of Banks to make grants to support these foreclosure and housing counseling programs. For CHAPA’s override letter, click here.

The Massachusetts House of Representatives must take up veto overrides first followed by an override in the Senate. The Legislature only has until the end of the legislative session on Tuesday, July 31, to complete budget overrides so please act now!
