Lawrence CommunityWorks (LCW) is a nonprofit community development corporation and a growing network of over 4,500 residents and other stakeholders dedicated to revitalizing the physical, economic, civic, and social landscape of Lawrence, Massachusetts. LCW’s Homeownership Center strives to help homebuyers and homeowners obtain long-term financial success and stability in homeownership by providing comprehensive education, information and guidance and support that helps homebuyers and homeowners make sound and informed decisions about their most important asset, their home. LCW is approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Housing Counseling Program, MassHousing Finance Agency, Massachusetts Housing Partnership (MHP), and is a member of NeighborWorks America, the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the United Way, and the MA Homeownership Collaborative. LCW’s Homeownership Center offers a variety of workshops, including homebuyer seminars, HomeSafe Post-purchase seminars, Foreclosure Prevention, Landlord Training, Financial Literacy and Wealth Building, as well as personal housing and financial counseling for homebuyers and homeowners. This is a workshop designed for those planning on buying a multi-family home or thinking about what is involved and current landlords who want guidance on how to do things better. During the workshop you will learn essential information to help you become a successful landlord. Resources and valuable information is provided with the class.Get a "hands on approach" from a very experienced and knowledgeable instructor- Ed Alcantara, with 27 years of experience.

  • How to market your apartment 
  • How to deal with problem tenants
  • Properly screen and select tenants
  • Steps in renting your apartment & Tenant selection
  • Security Deposits
  • Landlord and tenant laws and fair housing
  • Occupancy Permits & Lead paint
  • The eviction process

This workshop is approved by MassHousing,  MHP One Mortgage and other lenders/ loan programs. This certificate will allow access to down payment assistance programs from a municipality  and lender first time home buyer programs for those who qualify. We are a HUD approved counseling agency. This certificate is valid in for 1 year in all of Massachusetts.

**We provide ongoing landlord/ tenant support even after you have completed your class. There is no cost to meet with our counselor. 

**Please note that this seminar will be held live through Zoom. The participants are required to have a camera, keyboard, microphone and audio to "attend" the event.
