Bill Number H# 37
Title An Act Facilitating the Development of Underutilized Properties Formerly Operated by the Department of Mental Health or the Department of Mental Retardation for Supported Housing for People Deemed Eligible for Services by the Department of Mental Health or the Department of Mental Retardation
Lead Sponsors Representative Kay Khan
Status Referred to Joint Committee on Capital Expenditures and State Assets. Public hearing held on March 20, 2007. Awaiting committee's report.

Summary

This bill would require that when a state hospital or mental retardation facility is disposed of, not less than 25% of the sale proceeds be used to develop affordable, community-base housing for DMH and DMR eligible individuals. If housing is to be built on the site, then rather than using the sale proceeds, 25% of the housing developed on the site would have to be affordable to DMH and DMR eligible individuals with incomes of at or below 15% of the area median income.
