Director of Policy & Program Development

Join the innovative team at the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (MassNAHRO) and help meet the housing affordability challenge. MassNAHRO is a nonprofit membership association representing 240 local housing authorities that operate state and federally subsidized programs across the Commonwealth. 

The Director of Policy & Program Development’s role includes legislation and policy development, innovation and development of revenue-generating activities and initiatives, working with various committees, and collaborating with external stakeholders.

The essential tasks of the position include legislation and policy development, program innovation and development, serving as liaison to various committees, and more.

We’re seeking someone with 2-4+ years’ experience working in Massachusetts state government, public housing, membership-driven association, nonprofit, or related areas. Experience should include drafting and/or tracking pieces of legislation, excellent research skills, and strong writing and editing skills, especially under deadline pressure. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online email platforms required, and experience with association management software preferred. The ability to work effectively and diplomatically with a Mass NAHRO’s diverse array of members, staff, and other stakeholders is key to the success of the position and team. Successful applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in government, public policy, or related field. and be able to work both independently and as part of a team, and to prioritize successfully among competing goals to execute on deadlines. They should also possess a valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle for occasional travel, the ability to lift 40 pounds, and must be availability to travel to meetings, conferences, and events, including some occasional overnight stays and/or additional hours. Experience with recruiting services and public speaking skills preferred.

The annual salary range is $85,000.00-$95,000.00, depending upon experience and education. The work week is 37.5 hrs. per week and includes a generous benefits portfolio.
