Partnership and Sustainability Planner

The Allston Brighton and Fenway Community Development Corporations seek an urban planner and community organizer to forge partnerships with local institutions and engage community residents to promote sustainable development practices, develop affordable housing, stimulate economic development, and plan their community’s future. The Partnership and Sustainability Planner will provide technical assistance to diverse residents and community groups and engage them in community planning processes that advance the mutual interests of residents and institutions. This work is split between the Fenway and Allston Brighton CDCs, both in terms of job content and physical place of work.
Responsibilities: Research and disseminate best practices for institutional partnerships to our communities; Promote sustainable development practices in planning; Evaluate planning and development proposals against community’s vision and needs related to environmental sustainability, housing and economic development.
Qualifications:Two-three years experience in urban community planning and/or community organizing; Excellent verbal and writing skills and organizational abilities; Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekend hours; Ability to work with diverse constituents; Bilingual/bicultural (Spanish) preferred.

Duties:
The selected applicant for this position will be responsible for assisting the Transportation Plan Manager and the South Coast Rail Manager in A) developing a statewide transportation plan; and B) planning the South Coast Rail project. Duties will include conducting public outreach; delivering public presentations; responding to public inquiries and correspondence; contacting municipal officials; scheduling, planning, and coordinating meetings and events; drafting articles and other materials for publication and the press; staffing committees; managing databases; maintaining contract files; and performing related work as required.
NOTE: NIGHT MEETINGS AND SOME IN-STATE TRAVEL WILL BE REQUIRED.
Qualifications:
Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional or technical experience in urban planning, regional planning, land use planning or transportation planning, and (B) of which at least two years must have been in a professional capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. SENIOR PLANNER

Job Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and manage the development of the five-year Consolidated Plan, Annual Action Plan and Annual Performance Report for the City’s federally-funded Community Development Block Grant, Emergency Shelter Grant and HOME programs.
• Work with citizen advisory committees to develop target neighborhood and architectural access improvement projects. Manage projects to assure successful completion and full compliance with federal laws and regulations.
• Provide staff support to the Planning and Development Board. Prepare and distribute the agenda and related materials for monthly meetings.
• Perform research and statistical analysis and present information to citizens, non-profit agencies and various City boards and officials as may be necessary.
Education & Job Experience:
• The position requires a Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in city planning, public administration or related field; plus five to seven years related experience working with the Community Development Block Grant, Emergency Shelter Grant, HOME Investment Partnerships Program and other federally funded programs and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Successful candidate must be able to multi-task with varying project deadlines and possess exceptional interpersonal and problem solving skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is extremely desirable.
