Description:
This report, prepared jointly by the Metropolitan Area Research Corporation and CHAPA, documents economic and social disparities in Greater Boston's region of 161 communities. Using GIS mapping, the report examines issues of crime, poverty and segregation in schools, job growth, sprawl, fiscal capacity, and affordable housing. The report documents the problems of first-tier communities as well high growth areas in the Interstate 495 corridor. The study calls for a greater focus on housing in the Community Preservation Act, protecting Chapter 40B, creative fiscal incentives for residential construction, encouraging employer-assisted housing, and greater regional planning and cooperative efforts.
